Welcome to HSAP - Harrogate St Andrew's Players
Harrogate St. Andrew’s Players performed their first book show in 1969. The group was started by enthusiasts who had put on pantomimes and other events at St. Andrew’s Church in Starbeck, Harrogate. They decided that there was enough talent, enthusiasm and backing to produce No No Nanette, which was performed at the St. Andrew’s church hall in November 1969. The church hall was the home for a succession of musicals and plays for most of the 1970s. The shows were accompanied by a piano and the audience were seated on a mixture of benches and chairs. All sets were hand made and stored in a large shed, ready to be modified for the next performance. Likewise costumes were purchased/hand crafted and would reappear (with adjustments) in the next show.

"... Well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the show!"
"... Well, that was absolutely fabulous. You really do put on a good show!"
"Congrats to the whole cast & crew of Our House. Stunningly
good show, even by your very high standards. Viva HSAP!"
"Oh what a rare joy, invited to see a musical on the amateur circuit that I haven’t set eyes on before !
“Our House”, the 2003 Olivier Award winning show, is a musical featuring the songs from the ska/pop band Madness, and was named after one of their most popular hit singles. It relates the story of Joe Casey, who becomes involved in petty crime and follows different directions in his life in London’s Camden Town.
Joe Mellor’s Casey was an outstanding performance, calling upon his many and varied talents to carefully portray the contrasting Good Joe/Bad Joe roles with confidence and style. Sarah (Vicki Holmes), the girl of his dreams, complemented the delightful pair, particularly at her best in her musical duets with Joe and with his Dad (Darren Roberts). Jennifer Cowling’s sympathetic portrayal of Kath, Joe’s mother, completed an exceptional principal line up. I also especially enjoyed the characterisation of Joe’s quartet of friends; they were terrific.
And all received the fervent support from the well drilled chorus; their slick routines left me breathless.
Congratulations HSAP on another excellent production; long may you continue having the courage to introduce an audience to these less familiar shows."

"Harrogate Theatre last night (25th Oct) saw the opening night of Our House, a production by the St Andrew players.
Set to the music of the band Madness it tells the story of a young boy who commits a small crime to impress his girlfriend. A two-way plot line follows the youth’s two possible fates depending on whether he escapes or confronts the judgment of the law.
The show features twenty Madness hits, from One Step Beyond and House of Fun to My Girl and Baggy Trousers which makes it a hit for fans of the 1980s ska band but it also has much wider appeal.
Running a two-way plot line makes the production much more complicated than a traditional plot-line but making it undeniably worthwhile the extra effort it takes to watch.
The production was presented with both strong lead actors and support. The dance routines being especially crisp with the energy that the music needed from them.
The show makes for great entertainment being a great good production which can be recommended."

"When talking about your shows, I tend to run out of superlatives, as they are always of the highest quality. There was, however, something exceptional about this one. A uniformly strong and enthusiastic cast whose energy hit you like a bolt of lightning, a bright and colorful set and costumes, which looked like they had never bneen used before, polished dance routines and some of the best company singing I have ever heard, not to mention the band who managed to recreate the sound of the original Madness hits with great panache. As I said last night, this show is as good as any professional touring show have seen, and better than most!"
